Dear All,
My name's Edie and I'm the outgoing president of Cambridge University Music Link (CUML). We are a society set up about 2 1/2 years ago to create a network for Cambridge Uni musicians. Due to a lack of consistent interest from students in joining our committee we are going to have to shut down - despite popularity with members (just under 300 strong Facebook group, and over 300 on mailing list).
With this in mind, we are looking to subsume our mailing list, facebook group and website into another music society that might like to carry on our work. I'm contacting you to see if your society might be interested in taking on some of our functions so that our valuable service can live on.
We currently provide a mailling list which includes regular gigging opportunities, adverts for musicians for specific events and ads from musicians looking to collaborate with others. Societies like The Union regularly use us to source student music acts. We are also in the process of setting up regular acoustic nights at the Granta Bar in the University Centre, which would create an ongoing performing opportunity for musicians.
I have 2 committee members who could be used as a resource for running CUML as part of your society. One currently runs the comms - so mailing list, website, facebook group. The other would like to manage events e.g. jam sessions, acoustic nights, formals, drinks nights etc.
Our mailing list has an events system installed as well as a profile system - a kind of musicians dating agency if you will. It also has links to useful resources to musicians. The facebook group is used a lot for advertising gigs and to other members and is a great way to set up events such as jam sessions and formals etc.
Our membership is free and open to all CU and ARU students and covers all music genres and levels. In the past we've run jam sessions, cocktail nights, formals, a DJ night at The Place and a Never Mind the Buzzcocks quiz. We'd like to end with a bang, so maybe a big dinner (polishing off our grant) or a garden party. It would be great to collaborate with whichever society takes us on for this to make it a really successful event.
If you are interested in taking on some of the CUML functions then please get in touch. My email is edith.lobo@cantab.net and my mobile is 07940986687.

I hope that you or a society you know of would be interested in taking over CUML as it's a great opportunity to expand and to support cambridge musicians.
Edie
