'Svrsvm Corda', a newly-commissioned opera based on the myth of St.
Catherine of Alexandria taking place in November 2009, is pleased to open
applications for a director.
This exciting opera has been composed as part of St Catharine's College's
celebration of the University's 800th Anniversary, and features new music
by Benjamin Cox to an original libretto by Edward Herring, both current
students of the college. It will premiere at the College on Saturday 28th
November, 2009, and involve a cast of 8, a chorus and an orchestra of 25.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious director to stage the
work, the rehearsal process for which will begin shortly before Michaelmas
term 2009. This would be an invaluable opportunity for any budding
director. Previous experience is, although useful, by no means essential.
Far more important is a keen interest in opera and direction, and the
vision necessary to realize a new and exciting libretto theatrically with
fidelity to the text and music.
If you are interested, please email Benjamin Cox (composer) or Sophie
Henstridge (producer) on bdjc2 or serh4 before Friday May 8th to arrange a
friendly and informal interview. Please feel free to attach details of
previous experience if you wish.
