    IOLANTHE
    Cambridge Arts Theatre
    9th-14th February 2009

We are thrilled to announce the audition times for the G&S society’s production of IOLANTHE at the Cambridge Arts Theatre in week 4 Lent term.

The performances will take place from FEBRUARY 9TH – 14TH 2009, including Thursday (12th) and Saturday (14th) matinees. You should also be available for a week of rehearsals before term starts, beginning 5th January.

You will be required to read an extract from the show (which will be available at auditions) and to sing a song. Although we do not require you to sing a song from the show, we would suggest singing from the G&S repertoire if possible. The music from G&S shows will be available at the auditions, should you wish to use it.

    The auditions will run:
SATURDAY 15TH November, 11.30am – 4pm (Greenwood Room, Emmanuel College)
    SUNDAY 16TH November, 12noon – 4pm (Knox-Shaw Room, Sidney Sussex College)

To get to the Greenwood room, enter Emmanuel at the porters lodge and follow signs to the Queens’ Building. The Greenwood Room (Music Practise Room) is at the back of the building. To get to the Knox Shaw Room, enter Sidney and turn left, walk around the next court, turning left through the passageway. The Knox Shaw room is on the right in the cloisters.

If you have any questions about the auditions, or are unable to make any of the times above, please contact the Producer, Emily Taylor (eet24).

    SHOW INFORMATION:
7.45pm, Mon 9th - Sat 14th Feb 2009 (Week 4 Lent Term) Cambridge Arts Theatre

Iolanthe, a fairy, was banished from fairy land for breaking one of their cardinal rules - she married a mortal. Twenty-five years later, she is pardoned by the Fairy Queen, and reveals that she has a child. Her son, Strephon, is a fairy down to the waist, and is in love with Phyllis, a beautiful ward in Chancery. The course of true love never did run smooth, however, and Strephon has to compete with half the House of Lords and the Lord Chancellor himself for Phyllis' hand. All hell breaks loose when the fairies and peers clash, and the Fairy Queen decides to send Strephon to parliament...

With some of the pair's wittiest dialogue and most famous music, including 'The March of the Peers', the Lord Chancellor's 'Nightmare Song', Iolanthe's beautiful aria 'He Loves' and the stunning Act One finale, 'Iolanthe' is one of Gilbert and Sullivan's most-loved operas, and we are giving you the opportunity to help bring it to life on the Arts Theatre stage.
