St Edmund's Chapel Choir is looking to recruit new members (in all parts) for this
academic year. We are a small, friendly, non-auditioned group, and
sing for the Sunday Mass at 10.30am (rehearsal from 9.45am), with
rehearsals on Monday evenings 8-9.30pm. We also sing for various
special events in the college calendar. It's ideal if you'd like to
sing in a choir but can't put in a huge time commitment. You'll get a
free lunch a couple of times a term.

If you might be interested in joining, email the Director of Music,
Jamie Barron, at jaab3@cam.ac.uk. Alternatively, just come along to our first rehearsal of term, at 8pm on Monday 6th October, in St Edmund's Chapel.

SINFONIA TAMESA

For all soon-to-be-graduate instrumentalists – Sinfonia Tamesa is waiting
for you! We are London’s only amateur/semi-pro orchestra consisting mainly
of recent graduates, with large numbers of ex-CUSO/CUMS/CUCO Cambridge
musicians in our ranks. We aim not only for fantastic performances but
have also established ourselves as the most sociable, lively and friendly
of London orchestras, with regular socials, mad after-parties and a rather
concerning ability to get recognised in any pub or bar in the Waterloo
area.

Our reputation for quality in performance has recently received the BBC’s
stamp of approval, when we were selected as one of only 3 London
orchestras to participate in the upcoming BBC2 series Maestro under the
baton of celebrity conductors such as Goldie and Alex James, to name but a
few. Our programmes incorporate all the big symphonic standards, as well
as choral collaborations, projects with new young composers, and concertos
in collaboration with the emerging stars from the London music colleges.
We hope to build on our ‘youthful’ image in coming years through
community work with schools and through charity concerts, as well as further
projects along the lines of Maestro.

Any instrumentalists who, like me, found themselves drifting inexorably
London-wards, aching from the sudden lack of daily fixing requests in the
barren wasteland of their new corporate lives; WE NEED YOU! Please get in
touch now via email: u.sagar.03@cantab.net, and get yourselves on our list
in advance of our autumn concert, which will begin rehearsing in October.
I hope very much to see many of you there!

Happy graduation and have a great summer,

The theme for this year's National Archaeology Week (12 to 18 July) is archaeology and music and I am designing a very small exhibition "Whistle a happy tune" showing some of the ocarinas, whistles etc from around the world which are not normally on display. I am also putting together a programme of short lunchtime talks: Archaeology and the Origins of Music; Polynesian Instruments; ...
It would be good to have a combination of live performances and background music. I also wondered about having some music for which children could pick up a tambourine, triangle, maraccas, drum and accompany the musician. Can anyone help us? We have no way of paying you, but can provide limited travel expenses and lunch.

FITZTHEATRE NEEDS MUSICIANS!

If you are interested in playing the Guitar, Violin, Bassoon, Tenor Saxophone or Baritone Saxophone in Fitztheatre's production of Cy Coleman's Sweet Charity, please contact the Musical Director, Bella Gage, on iag25. The music is challenging, but a lot of fun to play, and it's a truly delightful show. Rehearsals are going really well, and it promises to be a super spectacle! You may well recognise some of the songs in it,
without realising that 'Sweet Charity' is where they originated - 'Big Spender', 'The Rhythm of Life', and 'If my Friends Could See Me Now' to name but a few. If you would like to play, or would like any more information, please email me as soon as possible.

The rehearsal commitments would be as follows, although this is negotiable:

Saturday 23rd February 11am-3pm

Sunday 24th February 11am-3pm - Sitzprobe (first proper run-through with band and singers together)

Monday 25th February - Tech rehearsal - time to be announced, but probably from 7pm

Tuesday 26th - 7pm onwards - dress rehearsal

Thursday 28th - performance 8pm

Friday 29th - performance 8pm

Saturday 1st March - two performances, one 5.30pm, one 8.30pm.

Downing college choir currently has vacancies for 2 SOPRANOS, 1 ALTO, 1
TENOR and 1 BASS.

Downing Choir is a mixed voluntary choir of around 20 voices, which sings
evensong on Thursday and Sunday evenings in the college chapel.

We sing a wide variety of sacred music, from the renaissance right up to
contemporary music, plus a variety of secular works in an annual concert
at the end of Easter term.

In Summer 2007, we completed a successful tour to Canada and the USA,
visiting Montreal, New York State and Vermont - other recent tours have
included Dublin and two weeks in Scandinavia. This year we have also sung
for services at Peterborough and Westminster cathedrals, and are planning a
tour to Germany for July 2008.

Singing for us is not a huge commitment, as there are only two services
and one rehearsal each week. In return, the choir gets free formal hall
every Sunday, and free singing lessons several times per term. There are
also social events such as pub trips and curries.

If you'd like further information, or to arrange an informal audition,
contact Mark Browne (Senior Organ Scholar) on mcb56@cam.ac.uk (mob:

The Stokes Society Garden Party is going to be one of the garden parties of the year. We've taken a tropical theme and we're going to turn one corner of Pembroke College into an Amazonian paradise. We're looking for some musicians to play in two shifts at our event, with all they can drink and eat in between. Do you play Samba/South American Jazz or even steel drums? Do you want to chill out post exams, play for some appreciative people and drink a whole load of tropical cocktails? We can't offer you pirates treasure, but you can use us for all the free publicity you want and we'll get you some Fopp vouchers to fuel your overdraft.

The party is on Monday 18th June from 12pm onwards. Please contact me on rjw91 if you can help or if you know anyone who can! Thanks!

Hello.

I am the conductor and joint MD for the ADC's production of 'A Midsummer
Night's Dream' later this term. The show will be Shakespeare's iconic tale
of fairies, comedy, lovers and magic with ballet and set to an original
score.

We're now looking to form the orchestra. We are looking for violins,
violas, cellos, double bass, and percussion. Will you join us?

The dates and times of the performances are:

Tuesday February 20th - Saturday February 24th 7.45 pm.
Saturday February 24th, 2.30 pm.

Rehearsals:

Orchestral rehearsals:

SUNDAY 11TH FEBRUARY 1-3
SATURDAY 17TH FEBRUARY 1-3
SUNDAY 18TH FEBRUARY 11-1

Technical rehearsal (to coordinate the music and onstage action):
Monday February 19th either the afternoon or the evening.

Dress rehearsal:
Tuesday February 20th, afternoon.

Since the score and the choreography are both original we have been able to
completely control the production as an artistic whole. The show has and
absolutely all-star cast, fantastic producers, set and light designers,
some of the best techies in the university, brilliant choreographers, one
of whom used to dance ballet professionally, and a director whose
production of Kafka's 'The Trial' received critical acclaim and made a
profit at the Edinburgh fringe this summer.

It's going to be beautiful.

If you are interested or want to discuss it further, then please do email
me (mcd42@cam.ac.uk).

Very best wishes,

Madeline Claire De Berri?
