APPLICATIONS ARE NOW INVITED FOR THE POSITION OF CHURCHILL JAZZ BAND DIRECTOR FOR 2010 - 2011.

Next year's director will inherit one of the most exciting and promising big bands in Cambridge. Set up less than two years ago, the band has gone from strength to strength and now has an established presence on the jazz scene in Cambridge. A boundless enthusiasm for promoting the band, fresh innovatory ideas and a desire to continue striving for greater musical excellence are essential requirements for the role.

If you wish to nominate an unusual configuration of candidates, e.g. two co-directors, or a two-role leadership consisting of both an MD and President, this may be possible but only after approval by the committee. Please email pn252 if you wish to discuss this further. The director does not need to be a current member of the band.

***Nominations must be submitted to pn252 by 28/02/2010. All nominations will remain confidential.***

The election will be held at an EGM called for this purpose on 07/03/2010 (9.00pm - 10.30pm) and may include hustings. Once elected the director's term will begin at the end of May Week 2010. Easter term will act as a hand-over period where the old director will be able to share responsibilities with their elected successor.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Homerton Jazz Orchestra (HoJO) needs new trumpeters, trombonists, tenor saxists and drummer this year. HoJO is the Homerton based big band, with members from a wide spread of colleges, that rehearses at Homerton once a week on a Sunday. Although newer less well known than Selwyn Jazz or Fitz Swing, HoJO has rapidly grown in strength over the past two years and gradually begun to take a slice of the Cambridge musical pie. Last year gigs included Newnham and Sidney bar, and the year cumlinated in a tour to the Edinburgh fringe. We hope to replicate and build on all this success in the coming year.
