Far from the Madding Crowd

Far From the Madding Crowd, by student composer Barnaby Martin with a libretto by Rupert Cabbell-Manners, is a new opera based on Thomas Hardy’s iconic love story.

A dramatic portrayal of the addictive and destructive nature of love, it follows the turbulent affairs of Bathsheba Everdene and her relationship with three men, all of whom fall deeply in love with her.

This will be the first new full-scale opera performed in Cambridge, featuring a cast of some of the university’s finest singers, and a score that perfectly conjures up Hardy’s Wessex. Don’t miss it!
